Bunny boarding!

Headed out of town and wondering where to board your rabbits (or guinea pigs)? Bring them to our bunny hotel!

At Sunshine, we’re thrilled to welcome your bunnies— or guinea pigs—to our bunny hotel, a friendly spot where you can leave your rabbits in safe, loving hands when you travel. The experienced staff who take care of our boarding rabbits are all bunny parents themselves. So we give our rabbit visitors the same love we give our own buns at home!

Scroll down to see example photos of our bright, airy boarding spaces - the perfect spot for a bunny vacation. We also board guinea pigs!

Hitting the road and want to drop your bunnies off on the way? Our facility is conveniently located in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood of Long Beach, just one mile off the 405. We’re easy to reach from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Santa Ana/John Wayne Airport (SNA), and Long Beach airport (LGB).

Note: For the wellbeing of all the bunnies in our bunny hotel, we are no longer boarding unfixed rabbits - rabbits who have not been spayed or neutered. We recognize that, for some bunny owners, spay/neuter is a personal choice. However, the scents produced by unfixed rabbits can cause stress or behavioral changes for other rabbits at the facility.

Good news! Sunshine has partnered with trusted local vets to offer a discounted spay/neuter program. You can read more about the program here and learn how to get approved for low-cost spay or neuter.

If you need to drop off or pick up outside of these hours, please contact our staff to make arrangements (contact@sunshinerabbit.org or 562 231 7116).

  • Saturdays: 11:00 - 6:00

Can I bring additional items for my rabbits?

We know that some families love bringing items from home for their bunnies while they board. You’re welcome to bring small items that your bunny will use up while they’re here. Some examples of items you may bring include:

  • Any necessary medications (please note medication fee)

  • Treats & small consumable toys (like apple sticks)

  • Pellets (if you would like your rabbit to have pellets other than adult timothy-based pellets)

We appreciate if families do not bring larger items, electronics, or items that may get lost. Examples of items boarders should not bring include:

  • Large houses or hides

  • Automatic feeders

  • Cameras

  • Any sentimental items or items that should not be washed

What happens if my rabbit has a medical emergency?

We try to take the best possible care of your bunnies or guinea pigs while they’re at our center. All boarding bunnies receive daily health checks to identify possible concerns. Sometimes medical issues do arise. Here are the steps we take in case of an emergency:

  • Contact the bunny’s owners (to inform and gain permission for any necessary care)

  • Contact our trusted vets (for expert advice and to schedule an appointment if needed)

  • Transport the bunny to the vet, depending on urgency and availability.

  • Administer medication and care following vet visit

Please note that there is a $100 fee for vet transportation in the event that a Sunshine staff member needs to transport your bunny to the vet. If this visit takes more than 30 hours, there is a charge of $30 for each additional hour. This amount is due at pickup.
